Garden Hose End Repair Kit for 3/4" ID Hose – Brass Male & Female GHT Fittings, 2 Sets

A split, crushed or chewed hose end does not mean buying a new hose. Cut the damaged couple of inches off, clamp a brass end on, and the hose is back in service for about the price of a coffee. This kit covers hose with a 3/4" inner diameter — the most common size on older and heavier-duty hose — and gives you both genders so it does not matter which end of the hose failed.
What's included
- 2 × male GHT hose-end repair fittings
- 2 × female GHT hose-end repair fittings
- 4 × stainless steel hose clamps (16–25 mm)
Measure the inside, not the outside
This is the one step people get wrong. The barb has to match the hose's inner diameter. Measuring across the outside of the hose includes the wall thickness, and hose wall thickness varies a lot between brands — so two hoses that look identical on the outside can take different barbs. Read the ID printed on the hose if it is still legible; otherwise push a drill bit or a ruler into the cut end and measure the bore.
Have 5/8" ID hose instead? That is the other common size, and it needs the 5/8" repair kit. A 3/4" barb in 5/8" hose will not go in; a 5/8" barb in 3/4" hose will not seal.

Installation
- Cut the damaged end off square, behind the damage.
- Slide a clamp onto the hose first — it will not fit over the coupling afterwards.
- Push the barb into the bore until it bottoms out.
- Position the clamp over the barb section and tighten until the hose is compressed, not pinched.
- Open the tap and check the joint before you coil the hose back up.
Warming the hose in the sun or with warm water makes the barb considerably easier to seat on a cold morning.
Repair or replace?
Repair it when the damage is at one end and the rest of the hose is sound — that covers most splits, crush damage from being driven over, and ends chewed by a mower. Replace the whole hose when it has failed in the middle, when the inner tube has collapsed or blistered along its length, or when you are already on your second repair on the same hose. A repaired end is not weaker than the hose it is attached to; brass outlasts the rubber every time.
If your hose is leaking somewhere other than the end, run through the causes in why your garden hose leaks at the connection before you buy anything — most connection leaks are a washer, not a fitting. More repair parts in repair kits and repair and maintenance.
